Default help needed - is my site rubbish?

I hope not, but it is doing my head in.

Advertising pixel site for businesses based in scotland!

I got the idea when I saw that million dollar website guy on the news - the idea of making that much was too tempting so I went ahead. Originally we wanted it to be just for businesses based in scotland. We have the website plastered all over our car so it is being advertised - I include the addy on all my oriflame literature etc but I haven't had much interest

Am I charging too much? - it still is much cheaper than paper advertising

Any ideas on how to make it a better site?

I encluded a page for any business and work from home ads cause I am on the internet a lot and know a lot of people working fromhome

any suggestions welcome

thank you

mandy

Even if your site was one of the best looking on the web, you'd still find it hard to make mooney by selling pixels. There just isn't the demand there and yet everyone has a site selling pixels at the moment. Most just shut down, if I were you I'd give up on this concept completely.

I didn't mean to offend when I said that. But I really don't see a site like that making money nowadays.

It's a brutally honest summary, give up now and don't waste any more time/money on the concept.

the person that origonally thorght up the idea made a fortune,

everyone who followed made next to nothing

the reason is because the novilty wore off, it was a brilliant idea to begin with, but not any more

there are hundreds of these sites around, you can even buy them for about £10.00 per year from ebay

think of somthing origonal and you have a winner

Hi,

You'll need to generate a phenomenal amount of traffic in order to attract, and maintain, customers for this kind of advertising proposition. Even then, most sensible businesses won't be impressed with the concept of 'pixels'.

Your best best, for a site such as this is to: reposition it as a normal directory; build up the traffic (through link trading with relevant, related websites); and then use 'google adsense' and 'affiliate programmes' to squeeze out a modest, residual income.

As others have said the selling pixels idea has been done to death now. Regarding your site specifically - it generally looks amateurish/home made and the different font sizes and colours make it look really disjointed. The horizontal scrolling is also a definate no-no.

Apologies if it's harsh but you did ask.

Regards

Joy

Default SEO perspective

Hi mandy, I just had a brief look at your website strictly from a Search Engine Optimisation view point, regardless how 'overdone' or 'irrelevant' your concept is. To be honest your site could do with quite a bit of tweaking with regards to raising your profile within natural search listings on Google. They gave you a page ranking of 1/10(determined by many factors such as relevance of content, keywords, and the source accessability etc). So even if this line of website was fruitful (im no expert on these trends!) then you would need to do a bit of work on optimising the content. Not necesarily just paying for a sponsored listing, work can be done to significantly improve your page rank and natural listings also. But good luck with it anyway.
