Default site redesign - feedback please

Hi there

Just redesigned my site and am after some feedback.

microbubble web design | Manchester

OK, I know there's no portfolio page yet. I've been contracting for years and all my work is in the private domain - banking web apps. so not much to show yet. Bit chicken and egg really.

Still, let me know if there are any browser issues, bad, mad errors etc.

cheers

Howie

Had a quick look around your site and it looks good, I liked the stuff about accessibilty issues (I think this will become more of an issue in the next couple of years) you must be happy that you comply and are ahead of the game.

The only thing, like you said, is the lack of portfolio page - why not produce some sites which show the kind of skills you have, approach local business' who have poor sites or no site at all, and offer to do one cheap (don't do it free) then it gives you a base to build from.

I am currently working on some ideas for a site redesign and am looking to build a site which is more seo friendly and accessible than my current full flash one (possibly even a home page that as well as having some info about the company, gives the viewer the option to go to the flash site or stick with the basic one, and some time in the not too distant future, an online store)- if this sounds like something that you could help with, let me know - either pm me or get in touch through my site.

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. belimited, I'll definitely get in touch.

Task 1 was to redo the site. Task 2 is to get some other sites done, and then add the portfolio page asap. I have work lined up with a PR agency, but it won't start until end of Feb when their current guy leaves - should give me some HTML emails and a few sites to add. And I did have a site to do for someone, but then they put it on hold due to funding, which is a shame. That's business, I guess.

Yes. Definitely going to offer some quick, cheap work to get the portfolio built up.

As for accessibility... I agree, but going to be hard to convince the small business man.

cheers

Hi,

Overall, this is a nice, clean website - well worded content, too.

If I was being pedantic, then, perhaps 'web design that works' might be a more accurate tagline than 'web sites that work'. After all, you're offering a much broader spectrum of services than just 'websites'.

Also, nice to see a web designer that's aware of the Disability Discrimination Act.

PM me if you'd be interested in a few bits and pieces (e.g. graphics, etc); again, this might help with your 'chicken and egg' portfolio problem ...

Cheers

First things first - I really liked the site. I thought the pencils banner on the home page was really striking and I like the way that the colourful banners are used on every page. A couple of minor points though.

The banners took a while to load when visiting the pages for the first time. However they load up almost instantly after that.

Under the "services" heading, when you click on "web and email hosting", "content management systems" is highlighted even though you're on the web and email hosting page.

Despite that the site is still impressive.

Regards

Joy

Hi Joy. Thanks for the feedback.. especially for finding the error with the navigation. Fixed now.

Point noted about image loading. Will have a think about how to improve on that.

Thanks for taking the time to give the feedback and glad you like the site

Steve... appreciate your comments too. 'web sites that works' is supposed to be a play on the word 'work'.. works in web browsers, search engines, works for customer etc. But I take your point. I offer more than web sites.

Many people do refer to web sites wen they mean so much more.

Will PM you tomorrow. Appreciate your offer.

cheers Howie
