Smile Pet Care Website

Hi all

I have just launched my own pet sitting/dog walking business. I have designed my own logo and would appreciate any feedback on it or my website which is www.doggiesnmoggies.co.uk

Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The logo is pretty decent, does what it says on the tin!

If you are able to change it, maybe beef up the font for 'doggies & moggies' a bit and if you put the text below the paw you could then make the paw stand out a bit more with a chunky outline, possibly in brown.

You could use the paw print for all your marketing, get some t-shirts printed up, or embroidered (there's a forum user who is doing this, alancregeen). Get some green paw print stickers done too (just the green paw and nothing else), really cheap and you can give them to all your clients, stick them on their cars or stick them at popular dog walking sites - branding, branding, branding!

its a nice site but you might want to try and add content to it so that it starts to show in the search engines. your keywords you will need to focus on will be your location and the services you offer - you will need to try and get these into the page content as much as possible.

maybe you could add a tip of the day or week for new pet owners? pet food reviews or comments? details of local vet practices - maybe approach them to swap links? just a few ideas.

Hi Doggies&Moggies,

To work out what words you need to put into your content for the search engines, make a list of words out that you think pet owner may type into the internet like Chesterfield dog walker, Chesterfield dog sitter etc and try and get these into your website content in a sensible way. Like the best value dog walker in Chesterfield, a highly recommended dog walker, one of the best dog sitters in Chesterfield etc. Maybe you could use some customer testimonials to create an excuse to write content like this.

Thanks everyone. I do have meta tags (if thats the right word) on the site so that anyone typing Chesterfield Dog Walker into google should find me? If I put those words in the content of the web site like you are saying, is that better/different to meta tags then?

There are loads of different ways to get your site optimised for search engines. The reason Geoff and Paul have both mentioned your content is because that when search engines are rating your site, they compare your meta tags with the content (to ensure that your site has what it is actually saying it has). This is to stop people filling their meta tags with terms that are just popular with search engines, but nothing to do with their site i.e. somebody might put 'disney' as a meta tag (because it is a popular search term) but have absolutely no content relating to this.

You can also increase your ranking by having images relating to your site, and ensure they have the appropriate 'alt' tags labelling them (next time you are viewing a site - when you rollover an image, a little yellow box will appear with the image title in it) so it may be worth your while adding a page with images of you and the dogs/cats you care for - which you can then label as 'dog walking with Rover the labrador' for example.

SEO can be a full time job in itself, as you have a quite unique service, it shouldn't be as difficult as someone trying to get a top ranking for web design etc. Don't get too hung up on it, but make the most of your site.

Ah, I didn't know that. I was planning on putting photo's on the site so will get to it sooner rather than later!

Thank you

As you have no doubt seen, there are quite a few SEO experts on this forum. I'm no expert, but learnt the basics at a seminar provided by my local business enterprise office recently - you should get in touch with them, if you haven't already done so, most provide training, courses and seminars which aim to help people setting up on their own.

hey just a few thoughts on the logo from a designer ...

have you thought about perhaos making it a more elongated shape to fit at the top of the page as at present it doesn't shout "logo" to me, just looks like an image put at the top of the page...

Also the font is a bit thin, so like belimited said, plump it up a bit for real impact and then maybe have the paw image smaller behind the first few letters of the logo.

Heres one I designed for a similar kinda site: (shameless i know..) chunky, bold, bright and fun.
