I have purchased a few domains. Do you reckon there is there space for a cheap large auction site in the uk?

Hi,
the idea sounds good but ebay is so big and successful you'll have your work cut out attracting people away. On the other hand I'd probably use it.

Hi Indy,

Thanks for your reply. I have now changed the name to auctionitforapound.co.uk & has been live for 3 days now. I know what you are saying the key is in advertising but the key to advertising is money. Which has stopped growing on my money tree at the moment.
I have contacted a radio station to get a qoute lets hope its not to much!!

Even if it was not my idea I know which I would use aswell, I have sold quite a few things on ebay and hate the monthly bills..

Regards

Neil Williams

Neil,

Auction sites suffer from a 'critical mass' problem.

Unless there are 1000s and 1000s of users, all of whom are buying and selling, its improbable you're going to match a seller with a buyer.

Most people forget that eBay was free for its first couple of years, until such time as it had a large enough user-base to warrant charging its auction fees.

So, is there a market for a cheaper alternative? Sure. But, the real question is - is that a market that's accessible? Perhaps. But, sure will take some cash to spend on advertising ...

Good luck.

Hi, did a little bit of looking around and there are a couple of free ebay clones out there. They seem to have a good few members too. I won't post the URLs here, if you want to take a look I'll pm them to you. Have you thought about offering free ebay style shops? May attract some of the ebay shop keepers over and encourage some trading.
