Default Dmoz

Has anyone been accepted in to the open directory (DMOZ)? If so, how long did it take to get approved?

I havent personally got listed but i have heard that it is one of the best web directories you can get in (if you can get in). helps with all the other search engine rankings as well if you get listed.

DMOZ is an open directory that is human edited and has probably the most concise and accurate listings on the web.

Google takes a lot of notice of a site after it has been approved to be listed on DMOZ, and can boost your search results placement significantly. The problem is that at the moment I here about sites that have submitted a year earlier only just being approved, so it is only for webistes that are in it for the long haul.

I have a website on dmoz but what surprised me is no traffic, it took around eight months after submitting it to appear on the directory, I have read that at present anyway it really does not matter if you are on dmoz or not. I did try to chase up a site around a 18 months ago on there forum but one of the moderators said some categories don’t get looked at for years at a time. Basically if your site is popular you get on by them finding you, and if you submit a site they may or may not get round to adding it. If submitting a site make sure it is fully operational they wont have it if your site is partly still under construction...

Thanks for the info scanet, I always thought DMOZ were more influential than that, just proves I am no expert on SEO issues.

Hi,

Yes, I've had several sites included in DMOZ; it's hit and miss though. You can expect to be wait somewhere between 3 months and forever! Being included in DMOZ is still somewhat useful, though (e.g. marginal increase in rankings in Search Engines), but getting in won't lead to loads of free traffic ...

Getting into the Open Directory Project (ODP) aka DMOZ, is very beneficial from an SEO perspective. Yahoo! and Google both pull data from there.

Hoe you get, haven't got a clue. Im still waiting. I have got sites in many years ago.

I'm thinking of looking for a recently expired domain name that is already listed!

I'd like to feel the effects of getting a listing, but not holding my breath.
